Week One of Life with Gehry.

5:00 to 5:30 AM
Wakes up for potty break in the kennel next to the bed. Danna and I alternate on who takes him out, though I think I owe her a couple. Down to potty and back up into the crate within a couple minutes, then back to bed for the next 30-60 minutes.

6:00 AM
Everybody wakes up. Gehry and I go downstairs for breakfast for him, tea for me, and coffee for Danna if she has a late start day. Danna spends this time either taking a shower and getting ready for work on her normal days, or on her later days, helping get Gehry all fed and pottied once again.

7:00 AM
On normal days, Danna is off to work and Gehry and I are off for our morning walk, usually about a half hour or so – up Holly, then across Paunack, down Toepfler, then back to home on Holly down St Clair. On late start days, Danna joins us for our .9261 miles

8:00 AM
Back and pottied up yet again (this dog pees so much!) we play around with the ball and the bone for about an hour or so. I try to sneak an English Muffin and some OJ in somewhere in there if he will let me.

9:00 AM
Gehry and I settle in on the couch for the morning work session. I have the laptop and usually turn on some TV to keep him interested and put him to sleep – he seems to prefer the Bravo network for some reason but HATES Jon Stewart. I have never seen him bark at anything harder than the video image of Jon Stewart.

He usually falls asleep leaning on my leg on the couch within 15 minutes and tends to sleep there on and off for the next 3 hours, occassionally stopping to chew on the blanket.

12:00 PM
Lunch for Gehry followed by a potty break and some play time out on the deck, usually the rope tug and ball. If its nice out I will leave him out on the deck on the cable while I go into make lunch but if its cold we come inside and close the pocket doors and let him roam in the dining room and kitchen while I make something to eat.

1:00 PM
Crate time for Gehry. After all that nap time in the morning he is usually too wound up to sit still for very long during the afternoon (and I unfortunatley can’t play ALL day) so he goes into the crate for a few hours and I head into OCUPOP for the afternoon, stopping every hour or so to take him out for a bladder emptying. I spend a lot of the afternoon on phone calls and just generally taking care of business.

3:30 PM
Time to come out of the crate for a little more exercise. Usually he has either calmed down by now or has gotten exponentially more hyper and bitey. Either way, we wrestle around for a little while and try to determine if hes ready to be out on the couch for the remainder of the work day – today he is right back to napping on my leg.

4:45 PM
Danna gets home! On a normal day anyway. If not…

5:00 PM
Dinner for Gehry. I usually let him eat and then take him outside to potty. I usually spend 15 minutes sweeping all of the leaves off the deck which tends to be enough time for him to realize he needs to empty himself again.

6:45 PM
Danna gets home on late days. I usually try to make some dinner around this time and Danna plays with her new baby that she missed so much during the day. Gehry gets kenneled up during our dinner.

8:00 PM
By eight, everyone is pretty tired and sprawled on the couch. Danna has been knitting and I am usually checking out all of the RSS stuff I miss during the day now or figuring out my to-dos for the next few days. Gehry sits in the middle struggling to stay awake.

9:00 PM
Gehry is sleeping on couch. Danna is struggling to stay awake. I am amused by something on digg or youtube.

10:00 PM
In bed. Gehry in crate beside bed. Danna and I reading or passively watching The Daily Show and trying against all odds to make it to the Colbert Report

11:00 PM
Zzzzz. Repeat.

I think you should invite Ed over for some corn and see how Gehry likes it.
