Minnesota Love

Welcome to our new blog! Everyone knows I’m terrible at keeping blogs updated, but I’m giving it yet another try.

The big news for me, as most of you know, is that I graduated with my masters degree in Marriage & Family Therapy. I’d like to thank everyone who was able to be part of my graduation weekend. It was awesome to see so many family members willing to make the trip, and I had a really great time. Now I am working on shaking off the post-grad laziness and maybe even eventually putting my degree to use.

I don’t have any real job leads yet. I had an interview back in May at a place that does in-home family therapy, which is apparently where all the jobs in my field are now. I thought I nailed the interview, but there was a lot of competition for the job, some of whom were my own classmates, so I didn’t get it this time around. But, they claimed there might be another opening later in the summer. So that wasn’t too disappointing. I was looking forward to taking the summer easy to focus on wedding planning, until I remembered that you need money to plan a wedding…

So for now I’m continuing to do play therapy & respite/basysitting for the kiddos I’ve been working with the past couple years, and looking to pick up more hours there. One of my internships ended completely when I graduated, but I’m taking the opportunity to stay on as a “resident” at my other site, my school’s training clinic. This gives me an opportunity to continue gaining experience with clients and stay connected with some of my classmates/colleagues. As a bonus, now that I’m no longer an intern, I’m entitled to half of the fees from any new clients I take from here on out. Of course, since our fees are on a truly sliding scale, most of our clients only pay two dollars per session, so its not exactly an income generator. I’m always keeping my eyes open for other opportunities too, but entry-level therapists are in pretty low demand around here.

Last weekend we took a drive up to Minneapolis primarily to meet with Aunt Ellen and the Duluth Cousins to get their bridesmaids dresses ordered. It was a very chaotic hour, but in the end we came to a final decision and ordered three cute dresses in “Acorn,” which is sort of a medium brown. My maid of honor, Lisa, ordered her dress in “Spice,” which is a sort of dark orange. So, now we finally know our wedding colors. I just hope they look okay with my dress.

We also got a chance to see some friends over the weekend, which was awesome. We got to visit Casa DeCoster for our friend Caroline’s garage sale extravaganza and an impromptu pizza party, followed by having an awesome time at Jared’s birthday party and seeing a bunch of people we haven’t seen in awhile. Then we spent some time with Mike at OCUPOP-Twin Cities Branch and were treated to an excellent barbecued meal with two of our favorite Burton Reps, Bob and Mindy.

We also had some nice down time at Mom’s house, a visit with Jared at MG’s The New AT&T, and a couple not-so-relaxing battles with twin cities construction and/or downtown navigation mishaps. On the way home on monday we helped out Aunt Ellen and Minnesota-Wisconsin Collie Rescue by giving a very well-behaved dog named Lassie a ride to Madison. It was great having a reason to stop for walks on the long ride home, and Lassie was a total sweetheart, even if she did leave my car full of collie fur.

Looking forward to having more team adventures to report on soon. Don’t forget to cruise over to our Flickr galleries!
